FEMORAL HERNIA - PREPERITONEAL REPAIR
The femoral hernia is easily reduced and the defect closed with some few interrupted nylon sutures catching the dense periosteum on the pubic bone and the under surface of the inguinal ligament- usually 2 or 3 stitches are enough. Keep the femoral vein out of way with your index finger while applying the sutures. If an injury to the vein occurs it will bleed briskly – don’t panic! Usually local pressure for some 5 minutes will solve the problem. If not pack and leave untouched for 24 hours after which you can remove the pack safely and finish the procedure.
