PENIS AMPUTATION
Amputation of the penis is not a procedure which you suggest to your patient with a light heart, but when presented with an advanced cancer of the male organ that is the only procedure which will save the patient from a slow, agonizing and painful death.
The procedure itself is easy and straight forward. Cut in a circular manner first the skin, then the caverneous bodies and finally the spongiosum with the urethra. The caverneous bodies are sutured with a heavy resorbable suture and the skin is closed around the protruding urethra. A catheter is left for the first 24 hours.
