SCANDINAVIAN DOCTORS/ROTARY DOCTORS SWEDEN

The “Skandinaviska Läkarbanken”, Scandinavian Doctors/Rotary Doctors Sweden, is a Swedish NGO which sends trained medical staff, doctors, midwifes and nurses to the developing world on short term assignments of 6 weeks up to a maximum of 3 months. During the last 5 years Aira Hospital has been supported regularly by the Doctors Bank with needed staff, mainly gynecologists and surgeons. Being the only surgeon - and extended periods even the only doctor - in the hospital, this support is a veritable blessing. The seconding colleagues share the duties with me during the dry season when the workload is extreme, and covers for me during my furloughs.

Some have served the hospital at several occasions:

 dr-anette

Dr Anette, surgeon, removing a standard size ovarian tumor

 dr-lisbeth

Dr Lisbeth, gynecologist, operating on a male patient

 dr-margareta

Dr Margareta, gynecologist, at coffee brake
