CESAREAN SECTION
Around 400 Cesareans a year are performed in the hospital. We use the Misgav Ladach technique with some slight modifications.
Misgav Ladach Caesarean Section
The modifications from this method are:
1) I stand on the left side of the patient since I am right handed.
2) The skin incision is lower, more like a Pfannenstiel incision.
3) The bladder is not pushed down before incising the lower segment. Rather the incision is kept a little bit higher up on the lower segment.
4) The uterine cavity is not routinely cleaned with gauze.
5) The omentum is not mobilized to cover the uterine incision.
6) The skin is closed by suturing alone; Allis’ forceps are not used for that.
One single shot of prophylactic antibiotics is always given before or at the start of the procedure since the vast majority of the procedures in our hospital are emergencies.
