MANDIBULAR TUMORS - total mandibulectomy
Extended (large) tumors of the lower jaw need a total mandibulectomy (completely removal of the lower jaw completely) for a cure. The disability after this mutilating procedure is surprisingly mild. This patient had lingered a long time – nearly too long – before seeking help at Aira hospital. A mandibulectomy was done, and while first disappointed immediately after surgery, he returned later to express his gratitude, showing that he was able to talk, drink and chew soft food.
